I have one, and it sounds great with bass. Not only that, but my counterpoint and soloing chops have definitely improved.

The RC-20XL and the RC-50 more than likely use the same buffers. The tone shouldn't vary between the two units at all.

excellent buy, when i bought mine i had a new song written in like 10 minutes!

real fun to lay down 'drums' with percussive hits and put some jazzy chord changes to solo over

you wont regret buying it if you play alone a lot, but dont bother using it in a band setting - no one will keep time with you

+1

I know I'm not good enough yet to take it out solo with me, and I doubt I'd find a band willing to deal with me noodling around, and *maybe* your tone will take a hit (I don't notice too much of a change, FWIW), but the thing is awesome for giving a jump-start to your creativitiy.

I've got a few vids on the 'Tube playing with it - you can find them in the TB group or by looking for "neurotictim." I'd post links, but I'm at work.

*Disclaimer - If you're looking for virtuoso playing, don't bother - I record more to keep track of progress & to remember my ideas more than to impress.*

ive had one for a long time now. it is the best practice tool there is. you can loop some chords and walk over it for hours, or loop your walk and/or chords and solo over it, it never ends with this thing. also great to just record ideas and come back to them later. its got a full 16 minutes worth of recording time, so you can demo full songs on there.

as for "never compromise tone" that makes no sence..most reasonable loop pedals arent true bypass..(only true bypass phrase looper i know of is Zvex lo fi loop junky..and its not quite for the same uses as the boss.) but if you have a lot of pedals, be sure you put this one in a true bypass looper..if you always plug into it.

so, in short, just buy it, you will NOT regret it.

I've noticed no bypass problems with the RC-20XL. As long as all the levels are set properly the buffer sounds 99.9% transparent to me. It's a wicked fun gadget and great for practicing. My lead playing has improved immensely. I haven't had much success using it with other musicians though. It really seems like a solo tool.
