NICE OVERVIEW: http://createdigitalmusic.com/2011/0...opers-to-beat/

"Los Angeles, CA, January 13, 2011 — BOSS is proud to announce the RC-30 and RC-3 Loop Station pedals, the latest additions to its industry-leading lineup of pedal-based loop recorders. Featuring high-powered digital signal processing, stereo operation, and new cutting-edge features, these battery-powered loopers are worthy successors to BOSS’ top-selling RC-20XL and RC-2 Loop Station pedals.

Live looping has become an increasingly popular means of creative expression for musicians everywhere, and BOSS’ portable, affordable, and simple-to-use Loop Station products have played a pivotal role in the rise of this new type of performing. Now, powered by BOSS’ proprietary ESC2 DSP chip, the RC-30 and RC-3 Loop Stations offer looping musicians the most powerful and best-sounding tools yet available for recording and manipulating audio loops live and in the studio.

The RC-30 is housed in BOSS' popular Twin Pedal chassis, just like the RC-20XL it replaces. New features include true stereo inputs and outputs, plus up to three hours of onboard stereo recording and loop storage, a marked upgrade to its predecessor's mono I/O and 16 minutes of mono recording. Additionally, the RC-30 has a new dual phrase loop feature that lets users create and play two completely independent stereo loop phrases in perfect sync./p>

Included in the RC-30 is the LOOP FX feature that lets users process their loop recordings in real time, plus 99 memories for onboard loop storage and an LED memory indicator. In addition, a USB 2.0 port lets users swap and manage WAV audio loops with a computer. Holdover features from the RC-20XL include a mic input with phantom power, an AUX IN jack for connecting a portable music player, and a key selection of onboard rhythms, which now include real audio drum loops.

The RC-3 is the RC-30's kid brother, housed in a rugged BOSS compact pedal chassis. The RC-3 offers all the essential features of the RC-30 in smaller package, including stereo I/O, up to three hours of stereo recording and loop storage, 99 onboard memories, USB 2.0, and built-in rhythms. Users can connect an optional BOSS FS-5U Foot Switch for additional foot control if desired.

RC-30 DUAL TRACK LOOPER

* Twin Pedal multitrack looper with true stereo I/O
* Two synchronized stereo tracks with dedicated volume faders and track-select buttons
* Massive internal memory with up to three hours of stereo recording time
* 99 onboard memory phrases for storing loops
* Built-in effects for processing loops
* Multiple inputs: 1/4" A and B input jacks, stereo 1/8" mini AUX input jack, XLR input jack with phantom power
* USB 2.0 port allows you to connect to a PC and import/export WAV audio
* Rhythm guide with real drums
* Runs on batteries or optional AC power supply

RC-3

* Compact and powerful stereo stompbox looper
* Massive internal memory with up to three hours of stereo recording time
* 99 onboard memories for storing loops
* USB 2.0 port allows you to connect to a PC and import/export WAV audio

Stereo Recording? Reaaaaally? The only thing about my Jamman I wish it did was stereo looping. Now that Boss has a looper that loops in stereo and can send data to a computer I may have to switch over to Boss.

Pack it up and sell it now on the Bay (with a fast 1 or 3 day auction) BEFORE the market becomes saturated (and prices plummet) with people selling them once the news gets out.

UPDATE: SEEM TO BE A TON OF RC-2s/RC-20xl's ON eBay RIGHT NOW.

The rc-30 reaLly looks attractive and on the surface solves many of the issues I had with the rc-20xl.

Edit: though still no midi sync.

MIDI-Sync sounds fantastic but I feel like that would drive the price up, wouldn't it? The biggest appeal to me with the RC-30, aside from the stereo recording, is knowing that it probably won't cost too much.

I'll have to try the RC30. If they fixed the timing issue (e.g., how accurately it starts the loop when you step on it) then I'll have to find a place in my budget for it - and my DL4 can become a dedicated delay (which it does really well).

I was going to buy an RC-2 but am waiting for the RC-3. MF says it'll be available on 2/01.

more info, pics, and video on the Roland and boss, sites
http://www.rolandconnect.com/product.php?p=rc-30
http://www.bossus.com/gear/productde...ProductId=1160

It's also up on Sweetwater, with zoom-able pics!

Also, I gather from the pics that both models run on a 9v DC, not AC, even though the website says its AC.

and the RC-3 also includes the AUX in, though it's not on the features list.

edit** I just watched the video from the Roland site. It appears to run on 6-AA batteries. There's also quick shots of the bend down (key change?), step phaser, and sweep filter. They all seem somewhat useless. No preview of the others but the site says "Tempo Delay produces a tempo-synced delay effect. Lo-Fi intentionally degrades the sound to create a distinctive character". A reverb would have been nice.

That might tip me toward the rc-3 instead of the 30. The 30 adds -loop FX -mic input -second track -some ease of use. Did I miss anything?
