Are these guitar pedals any good to use on bass? Or do they compromise your tone?

If anyone has any experience or alternative suggestions, would appreciate your expertise

I haven't tried an RV-5 but I used to own a PH-3. IMO, it is one of the best, readily available phasers out there. In fact, I MUCH preferred the PH-3 to the MXR Phase 90, EHX Small Stone and Digitech Hyper Phase.

And yes............"guitar pedals" typically work fine for bass players but whether or not you like the tone is up to you. Some guitar distortion and OD pedals suck out bass frequencies but so do some "Bass Specific" pedals. Modulation and time-based effects are almost always bass-friendly, IMO and IME. You really just have to try them out for yourself. Good luck.

+1 - I really liked my PH-3. I gigged with it and recorded with it, too. One of the most versatile phasers out there. I only sold it because of a deal I just couldn't turn down on an EHX Stereo Polyphase.

Yeah, the same goes for me except it was a deal on an H.B.E. Psilocybe that I couldn't turn down.

I'm still curious to try out a Stereo Polyphase, too.

I've tried both in the store. My impressions were:

The REV-5 had too wide of a freq response. I'd rather have less low-end in the 'verb part of the signal. I've been very pleased with the lows-starved sound of the RE-20 spring-verb simulator (it KEEPS the lows on the original, dry signal, of course; I'm just talking about the reverb-part).

I thought that the PH-3 really dumped-out the lows, like it put phase notches way down there.

I recently tried a phase-90, and thought it was nice. It reminded me a little of the Univibe.

Don't forget to check out the Univibe. In the 'chorus' setting, it's a killer phaser effect - and there's nothing like the Uni's vib-mode!

i have an RV-3 which is the reverb/delay in one pedal. i could say that it doesn't compromise my tone, and i don't lose any bottom end as well. i was looking for a delay and reverb before, but i only have one space left on my board. so i did a research and found the discontinued RV-3.
