Boss SD-1 with Monte Allum mod

Hey all - I dont have any way of posting clips but I have just nicked my guitarists pedal with the standard mod from this site that emulates the old TS808...

Monte Allums Mods - Pedal Mods, Pickguard Shields & eNut Tuning System

It's in the section under pedal mods-individual pedal mods-Boss SD808.

I am so surprised. To be honest for me it really only has one really useable tone. I was looking for gritty break up. Not necessarily a tube sounding breakup, just grunt on top of standard sound. I am running a bass with passive bart HB's directly into pedal, then into my amp. I run the level at 12 oclock, the tone a tad above lowest setting and the drive at 9 oclock or lower (any higher and the drive is a little too harsh for me).
It's a very pleasing sound, so much so I'm going to ditch both my Ibanez Phat Hed and EBS Metaldrive. It's does provide that grunty type of OD that doesn't quite break into distortion (sorta like a Phat Phuk), retains low end very well but just adds what I would have to call a shimmery "sheen" or presence to the tone.
It may have other uses as OD/distortion but I haven't had the need to explore. Just thought I'd share my thoughts.
After this I am very keen to buy a cheap Boss ODB3 and do the mod on this.

I did that mod. Never cared for it on bass, but I'm not a big fuzz bass fan (unless it's a tube Ampeg breaking up). It's very nice on guitar, as with all the other Monte Allums mods.
