Boss Super Ocatve (OC-3)

I have been trying and trying to dial this thing in to where it does what I have in my head it's supposed to do - to no avail!

I find it works great as a distortion pedal and even as a chorus pedal - but I can't seem to find the sweet spot where it will offer me an octave up or down from the note I'm playing without it being muddy (yes, even with the drive turned all the way off).

Does anyone have a setting that they just love?
