Boss TU-2 Tuner - good value, or are there better for the money?

Sign in to disble this ad
So it's really time for me to get myself a tuning pedal. I want something that is accurate, fast, durable and of course will mute the signal when engaged. And I don't want anything that will add noise to my signal or weaken/change my tone.

I see the Boss TU-2 used by many and it seems to get good user reviews, but at $100 feels a little spendy for a weekend warrior like myself. Is it worth it? Is there something else out there for less money that's just as good?

Also, follow-up question - I run a SansAmp BDDI in-line to my amp, so would my signal path be: bass > tuner > SansAmp > amp or should the tuner come after the SansAmp?

Thanks in advance.

It is a real good tuner. No doubt about it. You can get them used for maybe a bit under $50. That's a bargain. They work very well.

Korg Pitch Black. Cheaper, faster, simpler, easier to read, more accurate and true bypass. Looks cooler too.

I'd reccommend the Korg Pitchblack. It's more accurate than the TU-2. The pitchblack has +/- 1 cent accuracy while the TU-2 has +/- 3 cent accuracy.

If you can get the TU-2 for a good price and/or used then do it. It's the only pedal that has never left my board. Almost two years now!

Got mine for 50 bucks. If I had the $$ to spend I would prefer a turbo tuner.

As far as the accuracy goes,...how many steps out of tune is +/- 3 cent? A whole step? A half step?

I have both the PitchBlack and a TU-2. If I were forced to choose between them, I'd keep the Korg.

If you're spending that much, I'd get the Sonic Research Turbo Tuner. A ton of people here love them. They're a real stomp strobe tuner; in my opinion, the TU-2 doesn't touch it.

It has been the TU for me and my guitar player for the past 5 years. I bought my used on e-bay and it is still ticking.

They are built like tanks.

+- 3 cents= .03 step or .06 1/2 step.But who's counting? (That's frequency humor there that is)
But seriously folks ...I had asked about the PB recently and got these responses:

I'm thinking about moving to this from the TU-2.

The TU-2 does the job but the design shows its age. If you buy new there are much better choices.
