According to Brad at Tonefactor, they wanted to relabel the "level" control to something that fit a little closer with the actual function of the knob.

I have just brought one. I thought they were the same but I saw the labelling and was a little confused

So was I, so I emailed Tonefactor, who confirmed they are the same. Left knob is frequency, right knob is sensitivity. It took me a while to get my head around it as the left knob on the 442 is labelled level, which I would assume means sensitivity, but it doesn't.

It was labeled level due to the Dod 440 being labeled this way which is just as misleading, but if you change it people go "arghhhhhhh why does it have different controls to the Dod 440"

Isn't the bottom feeder tailored for lower frequencies?

So is the 442 Red.

In fact, I think the first one was modded for bass/baritone guitar at TaySte's request.

Yeah first one was modded for me. I've had about 8 442's/bottom feeders over the years just kept buying them in different colours and there was that one I gave to Doug Wimbish as well. I have only ever owned the bass extended ones

The DOD 440 worked "okay" on bass as I'm sure the original Tone Factor 442 Analogue Filter did, though I never tried one to say for sure.

The Analogue Filter "Red" was modded for baritone guitars and basses. The Boomstick Bottom Feeder is the exact same pedal, just rebranded.

I've got an old sparkly black one, originally owned by Tayste. If you want to know what the differences are between the guitar an bass versions, check out the BYOC forums, they sell a kit of this filter with instructions for bass mods.
