Okay, I haven't had much time to experiment with these pedals, but here are my first impressions. Steel Leather: This makes a sweet-voiced bass suddenly sound like a rattling machine.
Problem is that there is to much high end. If I hit the G-string it feels like someone hits you in the head with a wrench.
Equalizer tweaking helps a lot. Raising the low mids is necessary.
I'm considering maybe in the future to use this in a line selector with in the other loop a compressor.
All in all I like it and it's usefull for switching from mellow to agressive. Deluxe Memory Man: YEAH!!!!
This is what analog delay is all about.
This one suits me a lot more than the BOSS Space Echo RE-20, which isn't a bad pedal actually. The DMM is just darker.
What amazes me is that it leaves my dry signal alone, as long as the blend-knob is at 11'o'clock or below.
This gives a very nice dimension to the sound. Normally I keep feedback low, but when I raise it I can get a beautiful "new age" sound. And I never loose definition of the dry signal.
The chorus I don't like, but set on vibrato this pedal is even more amazing. Line6 DL4 Delay Modeller: I haven't tried this one yet. I'll get back on this one.
I'll try to do more extensive reviews in a couple of weeks, when I get more familiar with these pedals.
I'm going to built a pedalboard also in the future, if I figure out which delay pedals I'm going to use. Perhaps all of them or just two.

Nice score. |

The DMM came with power supply in the box, intended for the European market, 230V.
My POG also came with power supply.
I don't know how it works. Perhaps EHX takes care of their European users by delivering along the proper power supply.
So thank you EHX.
I can't help you suggesting or help you find a power supply for the US. I order from Thomann.de, a great online store with every kind of power supply for any kind of gear.
Perhaps someone else here (American) can help you with this.
My EHX Steel Leather just runs in a daisy chain (9V center negative). Quote:

So thank you EHX. | I think what he means is that we can't get the XO version of the DMM at all in the States. Frustrating... |

Yeah, I found it strange too when last week I browsed the EHX website and didn't find the XO version.
Perhaps send an email to EHX customer service. |

A Sansamp Para Driver is coming too, I just have to wait a little. I'm hoping perhaps the Para Driver can replace my BOSS 7-band Graphic Equalizer. (After 9 years of bass playing I come to realize I could live with just simple equalization.)
Also I need a DI box for various instruments. Quote:

Still waiting on the pickup. |

Got my eye on a Malekko delay at this point though so oh well.. Too bad for you, ehx.
I guess they haven't released that in the US because they want everybody to buy the Hazarai model? It's a very cool pedal, but (ATTN: ehx) if they sold the XO DMM here, I would own BOTH current MM models.
As it is, I unloaded a large size DMM for one reason - large size. |

I ordered it on faith. Turned out wonderful.
Thank you.
A Malekko delay pedal I'm GASsing for as well, after reading so much about it.
Might be something for the future. |

Might be something for the future. | Oh yeah I forgot to mention: congratulations and I am VERY glad you like it.
My recommendation was based on my love for the full-size verison. Maybe once the Euro drops some more, I will have somebody send me an XO DMM... because I LOVE ME SOME DMM!
Squidface, I noticed you described it as "dark". That's cool if it's what you were looking for, but don't you find it brighter than most bucket brigade delays?
I never used the chorus/vib too much, but the self-oscillation is UNBEATABLE |

I never used the chorus/vib too much, but the self-oscillation is UNBEATABLE | Well, I'm just learning about and to use analog delays.
Perhaps my definition of "dark" is not what it should be.
I like it that my dry signal is unaffected and that the delay signal is less pronounced (depending how you tweak it).
On the BOSS Space Echo (yeah I know different kind of animal) I have to turn the "bass" knob fully open to get this kind of dark dimension.
I love it when the delayed signal is a rolled off version of the original. (different equalization)
Definitions of "dark" and "bright" aside, I like the dimension it gives to my sound. But I keep this effect rather subtle.
I have an Ibanez DE-7, I use that one as a digital short delay. Exact replication of my original signal. (about 150 ms)
My original tone is already kind of bright. That might be why we experience this effect pedal different.
I'm going to try and do an extensive review of some delay pedal in a couple of weeks.
And I'm going to try to describe my experiences properly, so everyone knows what I mean.
But soundclips will speak for itself.
(If I learn how to make and post soundclips. ) |

Has EHX solved the clipping/headroom issue for the XO DMM? |

I haven't used the RE-20 (though I HAVE used an old Roland chorus echo), but it shouldn't be the darkest of delays, as it's modeling a tape delay rather than a "bucket brigade" type. So I can see what you mean.
Glad you are diggin' the DMM.
Golly gee whiz, Squidface, you have an awful lot of delays! |

But at first impression I have to say: I'm afraid not.
But it doesnt bother me. The clipping problem occurs mostly if you turn the blend knob past 12 o-clock and dial in more feedback.
But that is not the way I'm going to use that.
For me, this pedal is good and suits my needs. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
