broken knob, now what?

Sign in to disble this ad
my band mate broke the treble knob off of her EHX metal muff, on the same day she decided to sell it off. now what? lol

the pot still works, when you press the knob back in. but i doubt crazy glue is a good idea since its too deep into the cavity and might get stuck in the one position...

anybody have experience with EHX and these kinds of repairs?

she took it back to sam ash and they could do nothing but tell her to go to a repair man, he couldnt do anything either... and we dont know too many electric engineers that have the free time to help....

Not sure if you ever saw my old threads about my attempts to alternatively power the EHX Bass Micro Synthesizer, but after my cat was partially responsible for toasting it, I thought I was out of luck.

All it took was an e-mail to EHX, a $15.00 money order, and a trip to the post office with the BMS and original receipt in hand. A few weeks later, I had a fully repaired pedal back in my possession.

Just make sure it's still under warranty - IIRC, it's a 1-year warranty.

I'm more disturbed by the fact that her Muff has a Treble knob. I'm afraid to ask what it does for her.

ebay has the answer to all of life's problems:

http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-ELECTRO-HARM...2em118Q2el1247

a little expensive, but you'd probably get a lot less when selling with a messed up knob, so it'll probably pay for itself.

Wren, I think the pot is still broken either way. Cracked/broken pot shaft is the vibe I got from the first post.

I think he means that it's the pot shaft that is broken off, not the knob itself.

I thought it was just a knob? Oh well, I'm sure he'll chime in and tell us. If it's just a pot, then that should be easy to fix if he has a little soldering experience. Should be like $3-4 at fry's or rat shack...
Just switch the wires from the old pot one at a time to the same lugs on the new one.
I wouldn't try it if he's never done any electronics before though.
I'd guess 100k B. Just a guess though...

The problem with the Metal Muff (and all of EHX's new XO/Nano series pedals) is that the pots are mounted directly to a PCB covered in SMD components.

So... definitely not for the inexperienced to mess with.

So to clarify, she broke the shaft off inside her muff?

Yikes, it's been a while since I cracked open an EH. Come to think of it, I had an NYC pie, and a 70's PNP big muff that had PCB mounted pots, didn't think of that.

Send it to MysticBoo???

sorry to volunteer you man...

yea, the shaft itself broke, the knob itself is still good lol

and i cracked open the back to see if i could just put a knew pot in and i the pots are part of the circuit board....thats what it looks like from the back anyway

so i think she will have to send it back to EHX for the repair. thanks a lot

Do you know what happened the last time I messed with the guts of an EHX pedal?

To say the least, I'm an amateur at this stuff. Sending it to me is no different than rigging it with dynamite or strapping it to the outside of a space shuttle prior to launch.

Just don't let your cat work on it this time!

Or letting your cat work on it.

THE HORROR! THE HORROR!

On a side note... she attacks my stuff. A lot. Especially my strings, whenever I change them.

And then she sleeps on my amp like she owns it.

My cat loves my strings too, I always catch him dragging them off whenever I'm changing them.
