BSW as octave pedal?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm primarily in the market for an octave down pedal, and have tentatively narrowed it down to the EHX Octave Multiplexer or the Boss OC-3. However, I got to thinking about the Digitech Bass Synth Wah and remembering that there is an octave down function (sub + envelope), was wondering how well it tracks and how well would it function as octave down only. I might use the other functions from time to time, but my greatest need is for the octave down.

Thanks

Thats all I use mine for. For $50 or whatever it costs its still the best deal around just for an octave pedal.

It's fantastic as an Octaver one of my favs the tracking is super fast and can even manage chords.

I would venture to say that IMO, the octave function on the BSW is better than my octabass by EBS. Not quite as clean at some levels, but thicker for sure.

The EBS might sound more like you are plucking 2 strings at once, versus the BSW sounds more like the signal is octaved...if that makes any sense.

BSW was a great ebay pickup...

It's a really good octaver-- mind you, it only does -1, not -1 and -2 like the Boss ones do-- but it's pretty much all I could ask for, and IMO it's as good as you can reasonably get, without spending heaps of money on a much more elaborate unit.

I like the octave effect from the Digitech, but you will still get a little it of the tone change and synth sound on there. If you dump the outer two knobs all the way down, and turn the middle one all the way up it helps (I can't remember the labels). Also if you will use a light touch the envelope doesn't seem to activate. Of course if you like the synthiness of it then you're all set. The other synth sounds are great too.

I use it mainly as a fake "5-string" when I am playing a 4. I really like pulling a R-5 lick that ends up on the "low C".
