i know the Chunk Brown Dog is discussed as the holy grail of gated fuzz, but it is a bit out of my budget. from the clips i have heard, i am not a fan of the Subdecay Flying Tomato. i checked the Deviever site, and i can't make sense of what some of the pedals do. any suggestions on an under $150 gated fuzz? Deviever pedal or anything else that fits the bill? |

The legend of fuzz is more bitcrusher-y than gated. Go with the cherry pop.....

I think they are about 100 Euros, which is probably somewhere around $150 (I'm not sure what the exchange rate is like). I haven't tried it, but I was intending to buy one at some point.

Unfortunately the RESO knob is totally non-functional so it literally is ONLY a gated fuzz for me. So I can't say how the RESO would add to the sound. But the straight gated fuzz isn't nearly as tight or synthy or overall as awesome sounding as the Brown Dog. And they sell for $100 used or more these days which is approaching the cost of current gated fuzz products.
One problem with the gate on the Zoom is that the more you turn the Gate up, the less overall volume output you have. So the Gate starves the entire output to the point where you can have the Level knob maxed, turn the Gate up pretty far, and have virtually no overall volume output. Thus the Gate feature is somewhat limited in it's scope due to the overall volume drop. |

But as you say yours is faulty it might not be working like the 3 I had.

| | | | The MI Audio GI Fuzz can give you some gated sounds or some super harsh nasty fuzz sounds. It's definitely a great fuzz but the Brown Dog will do the gated thing on a completely different level.

Buying one assembled for $170 is still cheaper than a new Brown Dog, but not but not cheap.
Here's a clip of it doing its gated thing: http://www.sonicaether.com/soundclips/OLC5.mp3 |

that said, i realize i may be missing other names for "gated" (ie; is touch sensitive another way of saying gated?)
the MI Audio GI Fuzz and the Zoom look cool, i'll have to find some examples to hear how they sound w/ bass. thanks for all the posts so far! |

that's what i thought. 50% on the swollen pickle/Mammoth.
building my own mammoth sounds like a fun project... i could add a blend knob too then. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
