building a better line splitter / a/b switch

So I play out of two heads at the same time. I've used one of the morley signal splitters, and it kinda buzzes a bunch. I was wondering if anyone has experience building these things the right way and for a pretty low price tag.

To me RIGHT + CHEAP = Boss LS-2.

You need something that contains buffer amplifiers. They are easy to build, but even such a simple box won't be cheap if you take into account the time you spend building it.

Other methods involve isolation transformers to get around the problems with hard-wired switching. Such beasts are far from cheap.

time isn't really much of a concern. if it's under like 40 dollars to build I don't care if it takes me forever, it'd be a good learning experience anyway

no one has any insight on this? I've checked all over and am not seeing much in terms of plans on the net.

Try looking at the various DIY electronics sites: diystompboxes, geofex, tonepad, freeinfosociety, etc. Also for a transformer-based box there are plans shown on the Jensen website. Look up "buffer amplifier" as nifty mentioned, as that is the core building block you need, pretty much the only part of the equation that isn't just a mechanical switch (other than a transformer if you go that route).

I can build you a buffered splitter or put together a kit that you can build yourself. It's not a tricky project at all.

That's because everyone is caught up in the true bypass fad.

Essentially you build a buffer amp for the input, which will allow you to 'split' your signal, then you set up switches so that the split signal is selectively sent to the appropriate outputs.

You could go a lot more in-depth, but for a beginner project that's pretty much all you'd need.
