Building my first pedal board...need some suggestions

Sign in to disble this ad
I've got a great amp and some really good basses and now I want to begin building a pedal board. I'm not that into effects because I like to keep things simple but I figured a few pedals would be nice so when I get my tax money back this year I'm going to buy some. I got a line 6 g30 wireless system that I'm going to put on the pedal board but I want to also get a pedal tuner, a distortion pedal and possibly a wah pedal. I don't know what a good distortion pedal for bass would be, I'm thinking about getting a big muff or a little big muff, but could anyone recommend another possible distortion pedal?

And I don't know if I want an auto wah or a manual wah pedal, and I have no idea what a good pedal tuner would be. So can anyone recommend me a good distortion pedal, wah pedal and pedal tuner?

If you want something really crazy, you can check out some Devi Ever fuzz. Not for everyone, but can sound crazy. Muffs are pretty popular and can sounds pretty awesome. I have a Hardwire Overdrive and while I'm trying selling mine it's a decent overdrive that retains a lot of low end (can boost lows too); I'd recommend checking it out.

Sorry for my ignorance but what does a compressor pedal do? And what is a DI?

I basically had the same question and didn't want to start a separate thread for it. I'm new to playing bass. So I wanted to get some fun stuff, but not go crazy spending money on $300 pedals until I can play better.

Here is what I am running now:
J Bass with flats

OC-3>BSY600>FX25

I want to play mainly dub, but also post punk and synthy electronic stuff. So after some research I think I'm off to a decent start.

Ideally I'd get stuff like a Moggerfooger filter, EH mini synth, and Opti-FET Compressor... But I can't justify spending that kind of money on effects pedals until I can play better. So basically I am looking for stuff I can pick up cheap on ebay, craig's list etc, that will make the style of music I'm playing fun while I get better, but aren't pieces of crap. That's why I bought what I already did.

So what would you all recommend for me?

Line6 M9. does a BUTT-load of stuff. the distortions and filters aren't the greatest, but with a good fuzz, a nice filter and an M9 i would could be very happy.

to be honest for dub, all you need is an OC2, a af9/fx25b/anyenv filter that never opens its filter and a roland/boss rv100/rx100.. and if i was being fussy a GEB7 or equivilant.

Right for just dub, it sounds like just that stuff would work, but I want to play post punk and electro styles as well. So for electro, I think I'll need heavy compression and a synth, and for post punk - a good clean thump with a little chorus or maybe some light fuzz.

Why an OC2 over an OC3?
