Building a wooly mammoth clone

Sign in to disble this ad
I found a woolly mammoth schematic and I want to try to build my own clone. I haven't ever built a pedal, but I rewired my bass last week. Is this a difficult first build? Is there another fuzz that might be a better alternative?

Most of the schematic makes no sense to me, so my first hurdle will be to understand the schematic. Where can I learn about how to decifer it? I would like to know how it works rather than just how to put all the parts together. I plan pursuing electronics as a career, so understanding the circuits and what they do is something I would definitely like to be able to do after building this pedal.

Thanks

Soldering components to a PCB/strip-/perfboard is harder than wiring up a bass. Wikipedia and Beavis Audio are your friend. The Woolly Mammoth is a pretty simple first build but you might want to consider getting a kit from BYOC or General Guitar Gadgets.
