Anyone know anything about this mod for the Hematoma? Is it a worthwhile upgrade? I found it offered at http://www.customguitargear.com/hbehematoma.html for $16
This is apparently a "famous" IC and gives a "smooth, warm, round tone". I've been going between a fulltone and hematoma for a long time, and am getting closer to the hematoma every day. Just trying to decide on the details now. Thanks.

I use a lot of OPA2134s, but I usually use them in the clean blend circuits that I add to most effects. I'm a big TL072 fan, they are very cheap and very low noise. |

It really just smooths the tones from the pedal out. You can still get agressive, however, the mellows are more mellows and, to my ear, the BB makes things sound more old school. Also, on the pre-amp, it makes the boost effect a little less obvious when first pressed.
I thought it was worth it, but I still have the original chip also, so that if I wanted I could go back and forth.
Either way you go, you can't lose, because, as others have said, that pedal rocks no matter what. |

You'd be just as well buying a selection of 8-pin ICs and trying them out.

As mentioned earlier, the OPA2134 and OPA2604 are way overpriced at $16, and I don't particularly like either one - IMO the OPA2132 is a bit better (more open-sounding). A pair of AD825s on a DIP adapter sounds even better yet. Although some of their commonly used op-amps are on the warm side, BB make a number of chips which sound completely different. Also, while a standard TL072 may not be the cleanest sounding chip for hi-fi use, it's inherent fuzzy midrange character seems to work well for distortion boxes.
National, Analog Devices, TI, etc... also make a number of high performance op-amps worth looking into.... e.g. LM4562, THS4032, AD827, OPA211, AD8599, AD8022, etc....

I e-mailed them for info on the chip they use, and they told me HBE dosen't give out the BB part #, so I have no idea what I'd be getting with this option. I think I'll just keep it OG. Or maybe not. We'll see. Thanks again.
