Well I've been playing with my new toy, TubeDepot "The Button" Overdrive Pedal, for about an hour now. I have A/B/C'd The Button against the Bass-Drive Mosfet and the TurboRAT. All are somewhat different sounding. It has a lot more bottom end than the TurboRAT but not as much as the Bass-Drive. The Button seems to have a sound that is richer in harmonics than the other two. It also has a slight--not much--but slight amount of noise. Much less noise than the EH English Muffin. I guess some noise should be expected in a tube pedal. I find that I have to crank it higher than the Bass-Drive or TurboRAT to maintain the same volume. So far I am very pleased with the sound. I'm testing it with my Mustang. I'll try my Sterling later.
The pedal came in a nicely finished red powder coated box. The graphics are very nice and it looks to be very high quality. There is no vent for the tube, nor can you see the tube, but the unit doesn't get very hot. It was packed like the Rat and Fulltone in which the unit rubs against the inside of the box. This didn't seem to cause any abrasion on my Rat or Fulltone, but it did on The Button. They should put it in a bag like Boss does. It was easily removed with my Fender guitar swirl remover and polish. The manual is very minimal, but then it is pretty self explanatory. The manual does not include any verbiage on changing the tube. There is a warranty/serial number sticker that covers one of the seams warning that opening the unit will void the two year warranty. This product is obviously not very widely distributed. I think it has been out for over a year, yet my serial number is 00035.
I'm going to keep testing it, but at this point I think it's a very good unit that should compete with pedals similar to my Fulltone. At this point I would recommend it for bass.
