To buy or not to buy(digitech bass synth wah content)

Sign in to disble this ad
So im not a huge pedal guy. I have a danelectro fab overdrive and a boss ceb 5 chorus(i think thats the model?0. So on craigslist the other day someone had a digitech bass synth wah for $30 with a plug. I thought this was a great deal and told him i would take it. I then showed my girlfriend the samples on the digitech website and she kept telling me it was stupid and i would never use it. She got me thinking and you know what i hate to say it but she was probably right. It has no real application in my band and i would probably only dick around with it for a week or so and then it would just sit there. So my question is what would you do? I would like to have a small pedal collection just for that tonal variety but i gave up after the first two. This one was just such a good deal. I just dont know what to do.

Well, if you didn't like it or use it, it wouldn't be hard to get your $30 back via Craigslist or ebay. You never know what you might end up using and you may like its plain octave down.

On the other hand it is an awful pedal IMO and not worth the $30 let alone the hassle of trying to resell it.

If anything its worth 30 dollars for the octave setting, and the envelope settings arent to bad.

Like its been mentioned before, if you dont like it and its been sitting awhile collecting dust it wont be hard to recoup what you paid, Id say give it a month and you can find some useable settings in band situations.

Make sure you try it before you buy it. Meet the guy at a guitar store.

I have a bunch of digitech pedals. None of them work.

Don't know why there's a bad rap for this pedal. I use mine regularly without issue or compromise. Its a good pedal and a steal at $30

I love my BSW. Sure there are things that it doesn't do, but how can you criticize a pedal with as many options as not being worth the $30 price tag?

Well... If someone dosn't like the pedal, then its not worth spending $30 on. Sure if your into it, then thats a good price, but if not, well...

Its probably still worth giving ago though. You would get your $30 back if you sold it.

I sold my BSW about 6 months after getting it. It never really did anything for me. The octave setting was quite good on it, but that was about it for me.

I guess the octave and envelope filter settings are pretty good. Thats just about what everyone has said. The synth sounds also suck. Like i said previously i have chorus and overdrive how do you feel this would compliment my little chain?

Yes, they are IMHO. Depends on what you are after - the octaver sounds rather synth-y and nothing like, say, a Boss OC-2, but it tracks wonderfully. You won´t get a Bootsy-like "wet" wah with the envelope filter, but it sounds mighty fine to me like it is. To me, the BSW is an easy solution for not sounding like anybody else.

I would have subscribed to that statement two months ago. In the meanwhile, I´ve devoted some time to taming the synth sounds - and I´ve succeeded.

IMHO, the BSW is a great fuzz pedal if you know how to handle it. The secret is get the synth sound without triggering the envelope filter. My recipe: Active bass (MM Sterling) with the volume turned up only halfway (for less gain) + BSW on setting #4, "Sensitivity" at 0, "Control" at max., "Range" set to taste (12 o´clock is a good start). Can you say "Hysteria"?

For 30 bucks including a wall wart (which is sorely need with Digitech X-Series pedals), go for it.

its an alright pedal..definately not the best at anything, but it does a lot. for that price its good to get synth, envelope and suboctave..

basically, its worth the $30. can always resell it..

Yeah.
The pedal does an ok synth, ok envelope and very nice octave down.

Buy the pedal for you and a lipstick to your girlfriend.
That will make things easier.

Sooner or later you'll learn to just buy stuff and hide it from your girlfriend like the rest of us do.

For $30, buy it.

It does a great octave down. And the synth sounds can be cool when used for super huge envelopes.
