So I am looking to grab myself a new Wah pedal for my bass
I play a Fender Jazz with EMG pickups and I mainly play blues/rock/metal.
Anyway, Wah pedals are something I am not that experienced in-I have really played with my horrible Boss ME-50B Wah. Should I be getting a bass specific one or will a guitar pedal be fine for me?
I can grab a Jim Dunlop 105Q Crybaby for about $170AUD, are these pedals good? |

If you have the cash, go for it, I can't recommend it highly enough. http://www.wilsoneffects.com/BassWahs.html |

In my opinion, it is the standard for bass wah. There are better ones, and there are worse ones.
I like the 105Q because you step on it, and it is on. If you remove your foot, it is off. There is no "switch" to depress like other Cry Baby style pedals. The disadvantage is, if you want to set the pedal to a certain position and leave it there, the spring will return the pedal to the up and off position as soon as you remove your foot. So you will have to keep your foot on it.
I am not sure about the exchange rate, but look on ebay and see if you can find one cheaper. |

I have tried the Weeping Demon and suggest you try it out at the store before buying. Personally-----tone is definitely not for me.
I am seriously looking at the Morley Pro Series 2.

Very neat toy, honestly its the only wah Ive owned. I tried a morley first but didn't like it. I wanted to try a 105Q but the store didnt have one so I went with the 535Q. I especially like that it didnt spring back up when you take your foot off it.

There is a slight volume loss like MEKer said but if you are aware of it you can adjust accordingly. I am not aware of the exchange rate but I got mine for $50 bucks. If the price is right this is a great wah to get your feet wet and figure out what you want from a wah and it might even be perfect for your needs. |

Its not cheap (I got mine new for around 90-100 about a year ago) but its not all that expensive either. I especially like all the eq knobs it has so you have a lot of control over the sound you get, and you can set it to either stay on as long as you have the switch pushed, or activate a spring that will just turn it on every time you press it. highly recommend that you check out some videos on it. Although i looked around significantly and if you can afford it, the bootzilla is pretty badass, i would love to have one of those, but the weeping demon was more in my price range. I forget how much it was but it was significantly more than i paid for mine in the end.

Dunlop 105Q- this is the one I use. No fancy functions or anything, but it gets the job doen very well.
Morley Dual Bass Wah- Cheaper than the Dunlop, and has Vintage and Funk settings. Large footprint though
EBS Wah One- I've heard a lot of good things about these. Can't say much more than that because I have not had the chance to test this one yet.
EBS Stanley Clarke Wah- About the same info as the Wah One.
Ibanez Weeping Demon- My guitarist uses one of these. Have not tested it on bass yet, that being said the footswitch options and the wah range control are interesting points
Ibanez WH10V2- I believe these were just released, might be worth the gamble
Another option for you might be an Auto Wah or Envelope filter

I don't have it in front of me right now so I can't check it to be sure, but it's amazing. It's built like a tank, but it takes up about as much room as one on a pedal board too, which is the only downside. Still though, the sound i get from it makes it more than worth while for me.

Love his bass face and he really has some extreme chops on some other videos I've seen of him---hilarious bass face but actually a dang good player. I gotta smile every time I see him get going. Hah!

As far as I know, all the white versions are this way. Also, lots of people complain that when you step off there is a time delay which is true. This is very easily fixed by just twisting the main trim pot on the inside. I've never experienced the hiccup when stepping on it so I'm not sure what MEKer is talking about, he might have just received a lemon. Really easy to use, great pedal in my opinion. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
