Buying a bypass looper- How many channels?

Sign in to disble this ad
I know that's sort of like asking "How long is a piece of string?" but how many channels do YOU guys have and why? That will at least give me a frame of reference. Thanks and Merry Christmas!

Different for everyone, depending on *what* pedals, and *how* they're routed. I have a Lehle D Loop, which has 2 seperate loops. I rarely use it.

I have a 2 loop strip with a master bypass.

This is the one I have, whatever one you need you'll find it there.

Clean/Dirty Effects Switcherâ„¢ w/Master Bypass, Loop-Master Pedals

They're all hand made in the USA, and have true bypass.

Great pedal if you don't mind waiting for three months... seems to be the normal delivery time for Loop-Master.

I don't mind the wait, I ordered it a couple weeks ago, I'm in the marine corps and am deployed so I wont get to use it for another 3 months.

You will be really happy with your purchase then as these are really solid pedals.

I have recently decided to redo my board with a bypass strip. I am running 15 pedals and decided to split them into 3 bypass loops. I have the Loopmaster with 3 loops plus master bypass and tuner mute switches.

I'm running a compressor and booster before the looper.

I have devices to try soldering my own cables, which I have never done before, do its taking a while. I'll post it in the current "post your pedalboard" forum when it's finished.

I think 3 loops is a good number for me,

1. octave/filter/weirdness
2. Dirt
3. Delay/modulation/looping (recording)

The master switch is nice for having various pedals from all loops engaged with one stomp.

I like having a blendable loop to keep the bass present regardless of what effects you are using. The badger schism and wounded paw loopers are better for this kind of signal routing. I don't think loop master does blenders.

I have a Rocktron TruLoop blended loop that is essentially in the middle of the signal chain.
Pre loop I have Eq's Micro Thumpinator, Ge7B [sfx]AY2
loop>AW3-Lo|Fat, Brassmaster, BassBalls, UniBass
post loop is Zoom B2

With this set up I can set up crazy combinations and instantly switch in and out.

I have a single loop loop-master:

1-Loop Effect Switcher (LED Version), Loop-Master Pedals

All I use it for is to bypass all my effects, as I don't have any always-on effects.

I will be getting a Darkglass electronics B3K soon and I'll see if anything changes, but I like my clean direct bass->amp tone 90% of the time.

Here is my current board:

Thumbs up Badger Schism

I use a Badger Schism parallel looper. I have two parallel loops that I run effects through separately or simultaneously. I can "blend" them with my bass' signal or send my signal through either or both loops like a conventional blender pedal. It's pretty badass, it can cut or boost the volume of all three channels. Its got phase inversion and I can set either channel to leave delay trails. It's also very well built.

I'm looking to get an xotic x-blender for a PROCO Rat clone that I had made, I like to be able to have as much tone control as possible. I really liked the dirt sound of Nick Beard's bass on Circa Survive's Blue Sky Noise album but I wanted have a bit more of a clean sound in it.

loop-master 12loop strip. All my fx are on separate channels (except for 2: sansamp BDDIp and EHX Freeze share a channel).

Made a huge tone-and volume difference to my ears and feeling. A lot of my FX react different when they see the direct bass input instead of going through some 5-10 pedals first.

I THINK I've settled on a 3 loop strip with a master bypass, tuner mute, and tap tempo from Dan at this1smyne.

I had a pretty terrible experience with T1M. His site said 2-6 weeks, but It took him nine months to make my loop pedal.

What did you think about the pedal?

I haven't been very happy with it, but I know others are more positive about his custom work. His off-the-shelf stuff seems a bit better to me. PM me and I can give you more details. I don't need to flood this board with sad details.

I'm curious about those that use a 6+ loop switcher...maybe to control the whole pedal board?

I have a Loopmaster with a/b switching. Like having two channels. Channel A has six loops on it. Loops 5&6 are reversible. Channel B has no loops but just 2 effects on it. I also have a switch that brings both channels together.

I love my looper. On one of the loops I have a fuzz and octave together. I use that tone often so I just hit that one loop on instead of having to tap two switches.
A lot of thought went into planning my board out.

Do you think its worth it for controlling 10 pedals with maybe 2 or 3 combined? I was thinking of having the ability for front of board switching of all pedals regardless of where they sat on the board.
