Cable for pedalboard

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm too poor to buy lava cable for my pedal board, it'll cost me 200 bucks to buy all the connectors and cable

Going with cheap standard solder style connectors

What type of cable do I need?
Should I order it online?

Thank you folk!

If you are willing to assemble the cables yourself, there are a couple of quality, reasonably-priced kits available. Do a google or amazon search for pedalboard cable kit. Here's the one I used -

http://www.amazon.com/GLS-Audio-Peda...4161065&sr=8-2

You need to solder the wires to the connectors with this kit which I recommend. The solder-less kits are less well regarded but might work OK if you can't solder.

That kit didn't have quite enough cables to finish my modest pedalboard (5 effect looper). 12 connectors make 6 cables which support 3 loops. I got a pack of 6 inexpensive 12" pedalboard cables from Music&Arts to finish the board. The cheap cables work great since I used the kit to make all the longer cables I needed.

Cable = Canare or Mogami (Canare < expensive than Mogami)
Connectors = Switchcraft or Nuetrik (Nuetrik < expensive than Switchcraft)

My board is wired up with a combination of George L's and the Dimarzio cables they sell at the accessories counter at Guitar Center for around 4 bucks a pop. I didn't keep track of it but I think I'm into it for less than $100 USD

If money is a REAL concern, you'll be fine starting off with inexpensive plastic molded pedalboard cables. As long as you aren't moving pedals on/off your board constantly, there's no mechanical reason why even the cheapest of cables should fail and these short runs won't add any significant impedance issues if you've got an active bass or you add a buffer at the start of your pedal chain.

If you plan to swap pedals regularly, you'll get better durability out of heavier duty cables and connectors.
