Hi,

I am fairly new to effects and I know to some of you this question will be really dumb.

If I only have one Decent cable (lets say a monster cable) and it is link up to 2 effects(overdirve and compressor) .

heres how it look

Amp-(monster cable)-compressor-(cheap cable)-overdrive-(cheap cable)-bass guitar.

Whats the best arrangement for me to get the best sound in condition with only one good cable(cant afford more than 2)?

Would sound be effected if I switch the position of my decent cable with my cheap ones?
and compressor should always be the last effects right?

*Mine definition of cheap-the cables that cost $1 each usually...

Thanks,
Wayne

Cheep cables are just that..... cheep. Their is no way to get around the fact that they are cheep.

You don't really need monster cables, just a cable that has a good plastic sheild and is fairly constructed well.

Problem is that with cheeply made cables will produce a loud humming noise which will impact your sound, that and they have a much higher chance to stop working completely.

Good cables should not cost you a lot, if you are in an area that has more than the local guitar center, lots of mom and pop shops have good house made cables that will not run you a bunch of money.

it will save you the head ache. I used to try doing this and all I ran into was nothing but problems.

Unless you get an absolutely horrible cable, there is not very much difference between $15 cables and $100 cables. However, there is a big difference between $5 cables and $15 cables. It's worth it to spend a few extra bucks to get decent cables, but it's not really worth it to spend a ton of money on Monster cables.

No matter what else, your sound will only be as good as the worst piece of gear in the chain, be that a cable, or whatever.

I would say that you kind of wasted the money regardless of how you plug it in. I guess if you can actually hear a difference, then it's worth it, but I can't hear enough difference to justify spending three times as much for a cable.
