Question Cables to connect effects

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys,
So I'm in love with my monster bass instrument cable, its lasted me for years now. But now I'm looking to upgrade my play with a few bass effects and need a cable to connect the peddles. Monster doesn't seem to make a bass effect connector that i can find, so my question is who makes a trustworthy bass connector cable? Also on a side note, do they make bass phaser peddles or is my best bet a guitar phaser?

I've recently rewired my pedals with Lava cables. Not bad, though it sometimes takes me a try or two to get a connection but that's just me, I'm clumsy that way.

Monster is overhyped and only "average" in quality. Yay, it lasted for years, any other decently-made cable would have too. They do make pedalboard patch cords, but they are not a good use of your money.

The best route is to DIY. Get some bulk Canare, Belden, or Mogami cable, and some Neutrik or G&H plugs, and make them whatever length you like.

If you don't know how to solder and don't feel like learning it right now, then there are some good "solderless" kits out there. Lava, Planet Waves, George L. I've used the latter two and like them equally, but the Lava plugs look better-designed. The point of the solderless kits is primarily that you cut them to any length you like, for a custom fit to your pedal layout; but the coax cable that they use also happens to have low capacitance, which is a good thing.

If you just want something premade in patch-cord lengths, off the shelf, go with something simple and reliable like Pro Co. Rugged metal plugs, good lifespan, same warranty as Monster.

Re: phasers, do a search. There are some bass-specific phasers out there, but most phasers work fine on bass.

+1 George L's

I have no experience with Lava but they seem solid as well.

I do have some soldering skills and could potentially wire up my pedal board that way,...but I really like the smaller plugs you get with the solderless kits and the smaller diameter wire of the George L's so I happily support them. The initial investment is a bit shocking but it's worth it and once you get the plugs you only have to buy a few more at a time as your board grows.

RE: Monster,...drop that zero and get with a hero. Yes I like to get on my soapbox whenever these guys are mentioned,...but this company doesn't deserve your money.

And

For sure not necessarily music related but you buy any Monster Cable product and the money all goes to the same place,...a company with a documented history of corporate bullying and a bad reputation for shady marketing tactics and price gouging.

EDIT: To be fair last time I hopped on this soapbox I research current prices on Monster Products,....while their prices have fallen dramatically they are still way too much for not living up to the hype.
