Sign in to disble this ad
Mostly I use choruses for chorus sounds, but it's well known that some chorus pedals can give you a poor man's leslie kind of sound too. Of course no pedal can really give you the sound of a leslie, if you've played through one you know. But I decided to see what kinda tone I could get with the Analogman Mini Chorus (mine has the Deep Mod).
So I did a quick soundclip to share what I found. I figured I may as well play something with a familiar leslie sound to compare so I butchered the intro to Jimi Hendrix's Little Wing for you. I kick on the chorus where Jimi kicks in the Leslie on the original recording. Of course my sound isn't stereo and my bass doesn't sound like a stratocaster and all, but whatever. Also you can hear me fiercely sniffling in the background, sorry, hahaha! http://media.putfile.com/LittleWing-17
So I don't know, kind of adds a subtle magical, three dimensional quality to the sound, right? Do you guys think it sounds cool or is it too cold? I always like feedback on the sounds I'm getting so I'd like to hear some of your opinions, positive or negative. |

I like it.
BTW, I love Little Wing.

the only artificial leslie ive heard that sounded better was the DLS rotosim as mentioned above. theyre about $300, they can give you typical chorus sounds (not quite as good as the analogman) but its leslie sounds are seriously dead on. i'd consider using it in the studio on a keyboard, its THAT good.

If you want to hear the Rotosphere in a band context, Mike Einziger of Incubus uses it in the solo in Drive - http://youtube.com/watch?v=QY4FvpmmbiU - starts at 2:28. |

I'm using the bridge pickup of my guitar so that kind of detracts from the "deep" and "thick" too. Also it sounds a little more lush in person than in my low quality laptop microphone sample. |

but in the end i settled for the analogman for all my chorus/leslie needs. no complaints so far

The sound is pretty cool. I just want to compliment you on your playing, though! It's really a cool part you play!

The real credit goes to Jimi Hendrix and of course his influence towards that kind of playing, Curtis Mayfield. I've always been fascinated by their colorful playing. |

I never spent much time tweaking the Analogman chorus, it sounds pretty good even without meticulous dialing in. I've still got that pedal in fact I'm thinking about taking it to a three piece gig next week to help fatten things up here and there. |

Thanks for all the sound clips!

Clearly I like showing off all the pedals I buy and not to mention my arrangement for bass guitar of the classic "Little Wing". I'm just a little disappointed that not everyone recognized the part from my sloppy bass doodling though, hahaha. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
