Can anybody figure this out?

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently picked up a Yorkville 100 Bass Master combo as a practice/backup amp to my Hartke HyDrive.

Oddly enough, when I connect my Digi Tech Overdrive pedal, nothing.....dead.....not a sound comes out. Move the same setup over to my Hartke, everything works fine.

Same results when I tried this setup with an old Behringer OD pedal. Not a single note to be heard.

Any ideas? Should I try using the effects loop? What's the best way to go about it?

Thanks for any help!

The usual setup......instrument out to effect in, effect out to amp instrument input.

I'm no expert, but it sounds like you might be putting some kind of signal voltage overload onto your amp that it either doesnt like, or some kind of electronic component that handles the voltage in the input circuit has failed or become disconnected.

There might be some kind of breaker that is reading the pedal voltage as an overload and shutting down as a protective measure.

See if you can get into the amp through the effects input, bypassing the main input.

Thats pretty vague and generalized, but given the performance of the variables with the other amp, its gotta be in your head. (No pun intended)

My $0.02

I'm gonna guess - shorted coupling cap on the amp input. Certain resistive loads on the input would mess up the bias on the first stage. To test for this, set up a cable with a .1 mfd cap in series with the center conductor, and use it to connect the effect.

Good luck

Subbing this...I've had the same thing happen (...not happen?...) when using my instructor's small practice amp - neither my BMPi or Devi Hyperion would do a thing other than pass a clean signal thru when plugged into it.
