Can Anyone Compare a Boss OC-2 with an MXR Bass Octave Deluxe?

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently traded into a Boss OC-2, and it's pretty groovy, but
I was just wondering how the OC-2 compares to an MXR M-288 Bass Octave Deluxe.
Has anyone played both?
Thanks for any opinions.

I've had two BOD and a handful of OC-2s. My preference is for the OC-2. I couldn't get the BOD to track at all, but other people have had good luck.

Tonewise the MXR's "Growl" knob sounds nearly identical to the OC-2. It also adds the deeper sounding "Girth" and the ability to blend both with the dry plus the midswitch. It's also slightly smaller, true bypass (if that matters to you - I prefer the Boss buffer) and you can solo either octave down without a volume drop which the Boss can't.

All that said, IMO the Boss tracks better and with fewer artifacts so it's the one I kept.

Interesting.
Just discovered that mine was made in Taiwan, which I've read here that is supposed to be good.
Thanks for the input.

from what ive heard the 'growl' octave seems to be based on the boss OC-2, and the 'girth' octave seems to be based on the ebs octabass

I've read that a number of times, but while the the Growl octave sounds nearly identical to the OC-2, the Girth octave doesn't sound at all like any of the 3 settings on the EBS.
