Can anyone ID this vintage effect?

The bassist briefly kicks it on at 2:20

All I know is it's Matt Bissonnette and he's using an octaver, but I don't know what one. Here's a clip where he takes a killer solo, though:

Definitely an octave down, not sure if there's also a filter in there or not. When was this performance? Judging by the haircuts, I'm going to guess late 70s/early 80s.

There were quite a few octave pedals out by that point (Mutron octave divider, ampeg sub blaster were in the 70s and the Boss OC-2 came out in '82), so it's going to be hard to know what it was exactly. I'm still trying to figure out if there is a filter sweep or not, so it could be one of the first run of EHX Micro Synths.

Are you sure what you are hearing isn't just the horrible phasing and dispersion characteristics caused by laying an 8x10 on it's side? Oh, wait... This isn't the amps forum, is it?

But seriously. I hear him playing with what's either a short delay or a really tight reverb at the breaks and adding an octave down to it at 2:20. IMO, what sounds like a filter is really just a combination of his touch, a fretless and a heavily driven amp.

Here's a link I found with better sound quality. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Rkv8ZuAmO0
