Hey, i'm looking for a reverb or a chorus pedal or both to add to my collection but dont know what to go for, i'm not keen on the 80's sounding chorus effect, like mark king uses alot, so something that is pretty far from that if possible.

My playing, hmmm, think louis johnson, flea, larry graham etc, it doesnt bother me what kind of pedal it is, just looking for some recomendations and opnions so i can narrow my search down to what to go for. |

The spring sound isn't entirely convincing, so if that's what you're after I'd recommend the Boss FRV-1 pedal, which is a remarkable COSM model of a '63 Fender reverb tank (it's really the only Boss pedal that I think is much good at all, and it's very good).
I'm not a big fan of bass with spring reverb though. The only time I really ever use reverb at all on bass is when I'm trying to mimic Jaco's sound at the beginning of Joni Mitchell's "Overture/Cotton Avenue." Which is not something I need to do very often!
In a cluttered mix reverb can cause you to lose your punch and really get lost. It works for me in a very sparse setting, when I'm playing fretless primarily with acoustic instruments.

It muddies out the bottom end, or adds trails to the little toppy details like fret slide or clicks etc... the drummer hated it (he lets me use an analogue delay so it must have really got to him).
