Can a bad pedal destroy my amp?

I have an old Japanese Boss Heavy Metal, its kind of beat but I'm pretty sure it works. Is there any possible way it will damage my amp? I want to see how it sounds with a bass but I'm wary.

It properly won't... I use a Boss Metal Zone and it works just fine. As already mentioned just keep the volume on the pedal down to start with, mine is about 9 o'clock, and it boosts the signal slightly.

yeah, the only damage it does, is to your tone

Obviously, if you want to max the s**t out of the pedal and the amp, then sure something might break, but I think under reasonable conditions, theres no reason it would do any damage to any gear. As far as I know.

May sound awful though as alot of 'metal-type pedals tend to on bass IMO. (The Boss HM3 Heavy Metal is the same circuit as the Boss MT2 Metal Zone I believe, which also sucks, in my opinion of course).

Keep the volume on the pedal set to where it's roughly the same when the pedals on or off and you shouldn't do any damage to your amp... other than if you simply have you amp cranked way to loud anyway.

There are possible ways, but you would have to woefully misuse that pedal to ruin your amp. With proper voltage powering the pedal, no harm will come to your amp.

well, yes and no.

a broken / not working pedal- for example, with a bad output jack, can send that pop noise to your amp witch is bad. a cheap or bad sounding peal though, as long as its not much louder than youd normally play, will be fine.
