Can a EQ pedal hurt my cab?

Sign in to disble this ad
Well saturday i bought a new amp. My first stack. A GK Backline 600 (300w) w/ a GK GLX 410x (400w). Don't get me wrong. Its a nice amp. Its loud, its not muddy sounding. Its a quality tone. But changing the tone is my problem, because the EQ barely does anything to the tone. So I wanna get a EQ pedal, because that SHOULD do the trick right? However I'm wondering if it could easily damage my cab? A bit of a newbie when it comes to the hardware aspects of bass

Well, there is no inherent danger to using an EQ pedal with your new rig. Just use your ears! If you have the lows boosted up and you hear your speakers farting dial the bass back a bit! Other than that, no...you will have no problems!

If you throw it hard enough, yes!

Seriously though, only YOU can hurt your cab. In other words, it's up to you to monitor how loud you're playing and whether or not your amp and cab are coping with the demands you are placing on them.

But, why aren't you getting any tone shaping from the amp? I don't get that at all.

Yeah, that sounds 'off'. It has a 4-band active EQ, you should be getting a large amount of EQ control from that. Even that built-in EQ would be enough to damage a speaker if applied foolishly.
