Can I leave home without it? Sansamp content...

I have relied on my Sansamp for my tone for several years now. I had the bass driver DI version, the rack mount RBi (complete with blue led mod) , the bass driver programmable, then back to the bass driver DI. Overall I have been very happy with the sounds being a pretty much plug and play player who gets different tones with my plucking hand on my P bass or Steinberger XQ25.

I guess I decided to reinvent my sound and just got a Phil Jones Bass Buddy pre (very nice unit BTW). Definitely a cleaner sound but I usually ran my BDDI pretty much on the clean side of things anyway.

I've got some gigs coming up that I want to use the Phil Jones unit on but I am having trouble letting go of my comfort zone. Has anybody else had issues getting away from the Sansamp?

The BDDI is always in my gig-bag...

I currently own 5 Sansamps and I still want more. This craving will probably not cease, until I can afford many vintage tube amps.

I guess I can always keep it in the gig bag but I really want to cut the cord so to speak. I found that I can get pretty close to the sound with the Phil Jones unit but the EQ settings are pretty extreme. I think the flat EQ settings on the Bass Buddy are pretty true to the sound of the instrument. I usually run my Sans with the bass and trout and blend at noon, drive at 9:00 and very little presence. To achieve a similar sound on the Bass Buddy the settings are pretty extreme which makes me think I have been possibly neglecting some crucial frequencies with the BDI.

I have recently moved from PBDDI to Tone Hammer. The tone hammer is definately cleaner, and I have to admit I do miss that tube emulation.

It's not very safe to leave the SansAmp home if you own one.

I have a question about them. when I get my 3 Pro I would prefer not to use the sansamp in my signal. But I do want to use it for a DI, so my question is, can I have the sansamp off (no led on) so I get just my bass running to the amp, but have the DI signal with the sansamp in it? or does the LED have to be on to get the sansamp in the DI signal.

ps sorry for derailing.

It'll work fine as just a DI box, with the pedal disengaged. That's all I really use my BDDI for now, it sends both the effected and bypassed signal to whatever yr XLR is plugged into.

Just use the parallel out on the SansAmp to your amp

That's another feature on the Sansamp I will miss, the phantom power option. My new preamp needs ac power.

I wish more stuff worked on phantom power. It would be awesome if all effects could run on phantom power.

So the XLR signal is "inffected" regardless of weather or not the pedal is engaged?

I bassicaly want an inffected signal running to the desk and a bypassed signal running to my head.

No. The DI signal is clean when the Sansamp is off (like any ole standard DI box). When engaged, you get all the sound shaping in the signal path. Thatīs the whole point of the Sansamp concept, actually.

If you want the effected tone to the desk and clean tone to your amp, connect the amp via the parallel out - thatīs the (always) unaffected output.
If you want clean tone everywhere, just donīt switch the BDDI on.

I have the programable one, doesnt have a parallel out.

I may end up using it, but I would prefer not to when I get my 3 Pro.

I have been using a paradriver for a while,it works great, however I wish it had a pre/post EQ switch and a separate volume control for the XLR output. And an effects loop with a dry/wet control. That would be very handy indeed.

Wow, Sansamp and Bassbuddy are just about opposites. You could set up the Sansamp as an optional effect until you wean yourself off it. I would think that suddenly having midrange would be so refreshing you wouldn't want to even look at the Sansamp, but I guess my bias is pretty clear on this.
