Can I power my pedals with the same adapter as my guitarist?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello guys
need some info...

My guitarist and I will be going wireless soon and we plan on puting our receivers in the same rack. Now, both of us use one pedal, and they're both on all the time, so we want to put those pedals in the rack too (to keep the stage clean). No can we power both those pedals from the same adapter without getting unwanted hiss, hum, noise, tsunamis, Jehova's Witness at my door, ...?

To sum it up, different signal chains, same powersource... good or bad?

Thanks

I'd say you'd need to make sure the power sources your amps are plugged in are the same, otherwise you might get funny stuff if the place is not wired properly

No, no, no...guitar power is dirty and will spoil the purity of your bass signal.

Yeah. You'd better use a condom on the end of the power plug.

Yes you can, but it's an open invitation to ground loops.

What you'll effectively do is join the signal grounds of both your rigs together. Now, in an ideal world, there's nothing wrong with that - even if you're plugged into different mains circuits - and it doesn't affect safety (assuming all else is correct and working).

But in reality you're very likely to encounter massive hum coming out of both amps.

The best solution would be to NOT use a daisy chain. Make sure you use two individual wall wart supplies, one for each pedal. I assume that the wireless rigs will also be individually powered?

are you saying it's best to keep both wireless and pedals on different wall warts?

I would think that if you use a good quality power conditioner there would be no problem. But I would use separate wall warts.

I'm saying it will work, but it's not ideal. The best option is to use individual power supplies for everything.

You'll still be inviting ground loop hum to the party and that's a very, very common source of noise that no power conditioner can fix.
