Can lower voltage cause pedal to pop when turned on?

I tried MXR Blowtorch on 12V, and it has a noticeble loud pop when you switch it on.
Same thing happened when I put batteries in it, but those batteries have been used before with other pedals, but still had juice in them.

Could lower voltage cause this pedal to do a loud pop noise or is something possibly wrong with the switch?

I know it's true bypass and prone to that, but I tested another MXR Blowtorch in the store today, with an 18V Dunlop adapter, and it didn't pop.

I'm bringing my Blowtorch to the store tomorrow, along with my adapter (12V) to see if it pops again with 18V, and if the store Blowtorch pops with my 12V adapter.

The pop isn't caused by the true bypass itself, but by static electricity that builds up on one side of the switch, that gets released when you click the switch. The amount of pop depends on the amount of static, and the amount of static depends on an infinite number of variables such as how recently the switch was activated, whether the room is carpeted, what your shoe soles are made of, whether you petted a cat, possibly the shielding of the cables, possibly the weather in the area at a given moment (seriously!), etc. etc.

If the bypass was buffered or relay true bypass, then maybe the voltage could be a factor; but with mechanical true bypass (which I think is what the Blowtorch uses) the voltage is unrelated.

Well, here's update.
Just came home from the store, I brought my Blowtorch (not actually mine, I borrowed it from a fellow bassist) and my adapter to test it there.

My Blowtorch popped with my adapter, then I tried the store Dunlop 18V (actually a Dunlop Brick), and it popped noticeably quieter, but still popped.

So I took the store Blowtorch and tried it with Dunlop Brick and - zero pop, totally quiet.

So, obviously, something's going on with the power draw and maybe voltage or maybe it's because my adapter is not stabilized or whatever. But it still popped even with DC Brick - but definitely quieter pop. So perhaps a guy that used the Blowtorch on 12V messed it up somehow. Or perhaps it was faulty from the factory.
