from the clip from bassfuzz.com it seems a lot of tones are similar to my TURBO Rat, the big difference is that the Animato goes way further into the 'fuzz' realm in some of the settings...

I think i'm only going to use the rat if i got one for the distortion to put infront of my russian big muff which i use for the fuzz.

Depends on which side of the Animato. With the switch in the "loose" position, the Turbo Rat can pull of what the Animato does and prolly better from a bass perspective due to it's better handling of low frequencies. However, flipped to the "tight" setting, the Animato has a much harsher clipping to it that makes pinch harmonics scream that a Turbo Rat just isn't gonna be able to duplicate.

I thought the Animato is actually based on a RAT?

My opinion... No.

I own an Animato. No Rat I have ever played with or heard comes close.

I believe it is, but that being said...

A Supercollider is "based on" a BMP, but a BMP can't really pull off what a Supercollider can.

Thanks. We are getting back together this year and writing new material...

As for the Animato, I have found one pedal which can get a little of the attitude, but not totally nail the sound...

Hardwire Tube Distortion. The sound is very nasal, and can get nasty at times. I use it with an LS-2 from boss to keep some clean in there, and sometimes mix it with an OC-2 and get a very synthy octave bass sound.

there really is no replacement, but the Hardwire can get close. A rat can get close as well, is some aspects, but you would know the difference.

Do you happen have any clips of the Hardwire? I have been wondering how it sounds on bass for a while, but still haven't tried one out myself.

I might be able to do some... The problem is finding the time. I am supposed to have band practice tomorrow, but it might be cancelled...

Maybe I can get them done then... And finalize a few other clips.
