Can you point me in the right direction

I'm looking for threads that reference the question of using effects to mimic a rhythm guitar. I know there are some good threads on here i just can't seem to find them.

Thanks,
L.A.

Go to advanced search, select the 'effects' forum as the searched area, and use the keywords "effects rhythm". On the first page there are a few good threads on making your bass sound like a rhythm guitar. In the search function, certain words including 'guitar' are ommitted from search queries, which kind of sucks considering this is a Bass forum, and the word guitar can be quite descriptive and not overly-used when doing searches!

Not sure if it's listed in any threads on it, but the Pitch Factor can mimic guitar arpeggios or slowly picking the notes of a chord. Worth a look into.

Playing fast, slow, or both?

The first thing that I think of is the HOG or POG. I use mine before fuzz to add thickness and texture. You can add an octave + a 5th with your dry or original for "power chords" on the HOG...super versatile.

the akai unibass may be appropriate here
do you want to just have the rhythm sound or blended with your bass? I am assuming the latter.
other options might be splitting the signal, using an octave up device (POG, HOG, Octron?) and then driving the effected signal, or perhaps an octave up fuzz might be more in order (dano french toast springs to mind)

POG2

2 octaves above.

2 octaves below.

screw the guitar.

modulations/delay/overdrive help to 'fill' the space that could be left in the absence of a rhythm guitar. not the same, but it could be equally as effective. no pun intended.

Haha good point. The POG2 does really look impressive. I have to buy a Bass MicroSynth (SELL TO ME NOW) and a tremolo otherwise I'd probably be taking a gander myself.

I sold my MicroPOG to our guitarist and he's obsessed with it now. I went for the BOD and am happy with the change but the two sound COMPLETELY different with my fuzzes and filters.

I had checked "show results as posts", when I should have checked "...threads". Wow. Hmm. Duh.

Disagreed. MicroPOG would be the next best, but with the three effects on the POG2, many brilliant, usable and relevant sounds can be achieved with ease.

I'm getting one, and I believe Smurf-o-Deth already has one as of this past Tuesday.

That he does, Freaqy. He said he's going to do a review of it sometime this week, and when I mentioned it on the EHX forums Scott chimed in and said he'd want to know about it.

No pressure, Smurf
