Catalinbread Hyperpak Inverting Chip?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm looking for a Red Llama clone. I've found alot of options: Llama Rojo, Kaden Flamingo, Tonefactor Mule, Polish Love, Wren and Cuff Red Camel etc...

I've heard good things about the Catalinbread Hyperpak and to me, it sounds alot like the Red Llama. I know that alot of the Red Llama sound is because of the inverting chip, a CD4049UB I believe.

So, my question...does the Hyperpak use an inverting chip? If yes, does anyone know which chip is used, its not the same as the Red Llama is it? Is the pedal designed to be close to the Red Llama?

Thanks in advance...

I modified a couple of HyperPak and in the HyperPak I modified there was a CD4049 (I can’t remember if it was the “U” version).

I am not sure the HyperPak was necessary a pedal designed to be close to the Red Llama. Perhaps Catalinbread liked the Red Llama and decided to build a pedal inspired by it. Or maybe Catalinbread had a sound in mind and after a few tests decided to use the 4049. I think that, unless we ask Catalinbread, we’ll never know for sure.

HyperPak is a great little pedal for electric guitar and with a little bit of tweaking it can sound great with bass. If you look for a nice overdrive in a small box the HyperPak is hard to beat.

The use of a CD4049 definitely explains the likeness to the Red Llama.

I think I'll send a message to Catalinbread just asking them a bit more about the circuit.

Thanks for the info Max .
