Catalinbread sft into VT bass. should I?

Sign in to disble this ad
Im using a vt bass as a amp modeller now. Ive been running through lots of light-med overdrive and have settled for hbe hematoma in the meantime. Its pretty neat, but I just find it adds a tad too much mids to my tone. Plus its abit too high gain for me.

Recently, a catalinbread sft popped up for quite a reasonable price. Im thinkin if i should go for it. I have heard ppl say it cuts the high mids and sound muddy.

Btw, I have a 18v power which some people claim can make the sft sound better. help

I've had both

18V on the SFT is no doubt a huge plus if you're using it for bass.

The SFT before the VT with the right settings will probably yield some good results. I found the VT played nice with Muff pedals in front of it....so if you set the SFT for dirty sounds before the VT, you might find something you like.

Setting them both to Ampeg simulation settings would probably be bleh.

I liked the SFT better as a pedal and the VT better as a preamp...if that makes sense.

If you're using the vt bass for tone-shaping capabilities(like the sansamp bass driver and the hartke bass attack pedal) and the catalinbread sft for distortion, you can get get some pretty radical results. using a tube-emulation pedal with a distortion pedal can get you a pretty killer sound. I have a hartke bass attack pedal and I've once used a digitech bass driver(which I'll be buying real soon) with the pedal and I got a pretty killer sound with this combination. so if you plan to combine the vt bass with the catalinbread sft, give it shot. you might get some surprising results with this combination.

I use to have the Catalinbread SFT and ran it at 18V and I know what you mean with the pedal vs. preamp on the VT Bass. I now have a VT Bass and it plays good with anything you run into it. I place it right before my only delay (Strymon El Capistan) and it makes anything running into ita bit more SEXIER! Let me know how the SFT into the VT works!
