Question Chain order and tips

Sign in to disble this ad
I know this is a question frequently asked and I have read several answers to this subject and I am a little lost. I am greatly surprised by all kinds of effects that you have, and I do not know. I would like advice on my case and what would be the ideal order for my pedalboard.

Here are my effects (in the current order)

Boss TU-2
Akai Unibass UB1 (wet signal to a guitar amp)
Electro Harmonix Bassballs
Boss ODB-3
MXR Blowtorch
Boss CEB-3
Electro Harmonix Micro Pog
Tech 21 Sansamp BDDI

Thank you for your advice

Without knowing what kind of music you like to play this question is impossible to answer... wel actually it's impossible to tell you what YOUR ideal order would be anyhow, but that's beside the point. MOAR INFO NOAW

...my only suggestion would be to try the micro POG right after the tuner...

I'd probably start out exactly like you have them, and fiddle from there.

I would try this:

1. Boss TU-2
2. Electro Harmonix Micro Pog
3. Boss ODB-3 (possibly swapped with blowtorch)
4. Akai Unibass UB1 (wet signal to a guitar amp)
5. Electro Harmonix Bassballs
6. Boss CEB-3
7. MXR Blowtorch (possibly swapped with ODB-3)
8. Tech 21 Sansamp BDDI

The main changes were moving the POG up for tracking purposes, and spreading out the Dirt so you can have some nasty either pre or post on most effects.

My rule of thumb from lots of trial and error is as follows:

From bass, plug into pedals in this order:

Wah
Filters
Compressor
Overdrives
Modulation (chorus/phase/flange)
delay

Then out to amp

A tuner can go pretty much anywhere but keep in mind, running a non "true bypass" tuner such as the Boss in your chain will suck a little tone, even when the tuner is off.

The Sans Amp pedal would usually go last as it is also a d.i. pedal and if you run from the Sans Amp to the mixing board, you wont hear any effects placed after it. Having said that, I never liked how the Sans Amp colors not only my tone, but my other effects when in the signal chain. Unless you have it on all the time, I would think twice about weather you need it in your pedal chain or not.
