Have any of you had a plan for what you wanted to do with your sound/pedal board and gotten an effect that just went somewhere you never imagined it could?
My pedal that changes everything is the EP-2 by Pigtronix.
I hadn't put much thought into a phaser but recent activity in the effects forum, with phaser shootouts, clips and all that brought an interesting idea and/or GAS to my brain. Next thing you know I am blindly purchasing the EP-2.
I got the pedal about 2 days after purchasing and played around with it in my bedroom for a week. I then brought it to the band room thinking I would put it right after my Enigma, before my delay(smmw/h) and Compresser(Compulator). We played one set and then the epiphany. I right then and there rearranged my whole pedal board.
1st I removed my dunlop 105q
2nd I moved my planet waves tuner into the effects loop of my Furman sp8(all of my noise was gone!!!!).
3rd up I run 2 amps an Eden WT800 through an epifani ps410 and gk 210and an Aguilar AG500 combo w/ the gs112 and a db112 ext. I was running all of my effect through the Aggie but with the EP-2 there was zero lowend loss so I experimented with my signal chain. So the 1st pedal is my MicroPog I run the dry out of this into my BOD into my Battering Ram into my Enigma(in Low Pass maode for now) into my Eden, from the wet out(of the MicroPog) I run into the EP-2 into my smmw/h into my compulator into the Aggie. I am loving this setup so much. Anyone else have a story to share? |

Having the OD and fuzz in parallel opened the door for all kinds of new sounds, and the dry output is a vital part of my setup now. I run the dry out to an Octave Multiplexer and the dirty output to my VT bass. I combine and mix the signals with an LS-2, and it sounds unreal. |

Might be warm, I'm not sure how to put it in words. One of these days I will get my setup at home done so I could post some clips. |

Edit::: I'll thank gnasher, that was way easier to digest. Thank you, gnasher. |

My first 'game changer' was the Line 6 DL4, but that's mostly due to me never expecting to play delays.
I have to say that my Pigtronix Disnortion is the only real 'game changer' when it comes down to it. I was expecting to get into distorted tones and layering grit but I fund that I'm using subtle amounts of gain on the OD side to open up my tone parallel to a zeroed out 'fuzz' side which I as a preamp/articulation unit.
My only bass is a JazzV with rotosound tapewound strings, so my rig is pretty much 'fat bass'. I've had quite the time cutting around the unrendered gristle with amp EQ but that little bit of gnarly boost from my fuzz channel on 'mid scoop' does the trick.
The touch sensitive OD that sears a lot of the fatness that's coming from my bass.
It's delicious.
That's not even getting into its Octava channel after an OC-2...I sold my BMS mostly because I'm liking these synthy tones much more. Way less 'neato FX box' much more 'awesome tone - is that even an effect?'

Looking at the way you put everything makes alot of sense and in hindsight I should have set it up that way. Thanks for taking the time to do it. I come onto this forum to get advice, learn stuff and interract with other bassists not to piss people off/make people think I'm arrogant. Hopefull this will make amends and there will be no hard feelings. |

The second was drum machines. The third was analog synthesis. Each of these 'discoveries' triggered multi-month journeys that have somehow integrated with and shaped my ongoing solo / vanity project. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
