the "guitar whammy" the digitech WH 4 or whatever works pretty well on bass I hear. There only a couple setting the bass whammy has that it does not have.

Haven't tried it, but a used Digitech XP100 whammy-wah (there are always several on www.ishibashi.co.jp/u_box/, and they're 15800 yen, shipping to Australia should be cheap meaning it should come in under $200AU) should fit the bill. They are reputed to do all the harmonies that the Bass Whammy does (including the 5th up-octave up) if you wanna do tool covers.

Pedal control is a cool thing, but it'll use up a lot more pedalboard real estate than the boss...

had a look at the WP100, not bad looking though a bit tedious about ordering from japan, still considering the HR-2, found out u can choose keys to harmonise in now thats kool.

I have a HR-2, I dig it, but it never gets off the detune setting! The harmonies sound awful to me, but diff'rent strokes...

Looked at the boss pitch shifters? The have exp control if you decide to go that way.

I just bought a used Whammy IV for $80 American, so it is possible to get them cheap.

The PS-5 can do everything the HR-2 could, right? Price wise you're best off getting something that's used but not discontinued.

EDIT: Just did a little more research and HR-2 has two harmonies vs one with the PS-5.

HR-2 works great in any of the down modes, and pretty good up to the + 4th or 5th. 6th up and 8ve up track more poorly and sound increasingly fake. I did enjoy it while I had it though, used to love chucking it on + and - a 3rd and run my old SYB-3 through it

Does the PS-5 do intelligent harmonizing?

Yeah, the PS-5 has you set a key.

Hmm... what happens if you play a note out of that key on an intelligent harmonizer?
