Cheap option for Boss style power daisy chaining

Sign in to disble this ad
I have decided to make a tiny pedal board for the covers we are doing. For the amount of pedals I will be using a 1 spot or any other power source is a bit of overkill.

My setup isn't going to be more than 4-5 pedals tops including the tuner.

The pedals I am am going to be using rate in the 15 mA range so there will be no issue with overpowering the Boss, Korg, Planet Waves (whichever tuner I buy) power limit.

With that being said the Boss daisy cable (PCS-20A) is 16-20 bucks everywhere you look. There is no reason this should cost more than a power supply for the pedals. It's gotta cost 2 bucks to make the dern thing.

Any cheaper options?

Confused.

So, youre just looking for a cheaper alternative to the PCS-20A?
It'll cost you about $10, this is the on I have: Amazon.com: Visual Sound One Spot Multi-Plug 5 Cable: Musical Instruments

Ive hooked this up to a 1 spot daisy chain and was able to power 9 pedals with just one plug.

So will that adapter work out of a Boss Tuner out or do you have to use the 1 spot?

I saw that but wasn't sure it would work.

I want to use the power out of the Boss Tuner and not use a 1 spot. I already have a boss power supply for the tuner.

i think the Boss tuner out isn't gonna be enough juice. could be wrong. it'll work, but i think you get more mAmps to play with if you do a daisy chain from a 1spot and use one of the plugs into the Boss tuner as well as the other pedals.

should be around $20 for a 1spot with a daisy chain and a mess of adapters i think.

34ish for the 1 spot and adapters now.

Boss, Korg etc tuner puts out 200mA and my pedals are rated at 15mA, even if they were 40-50mA I would have enough to do what I want to do. No worries there.

The 1 spot was around 21 bucks I think last year but it went up considerably.

huh. that sucks. yeah, the ones i have lying around seem to be mating when i'm not looking. i KNOW that i've only bought 2 or 3, but i have like 6. and that..... kinda.... scares me a little. but i haven't priced them for a bit.

a lot of people have had fine luck running close to the operational headroom quoted on outputs, but i always get something funky when i get too close. either noise or a pedal acting up. i had my Wrong Side Of Uranus doing some weird stuff, cleared up as soon as i gave it it's own output with more drawing space.

good luck! let us know if it works for you!

but...... but.... break up their illegitimate chillren's? i'm hoping that there'll be some weird inbreeding deformities and i'll end up with a free Supah Charger or some monstrous pedal monstrosity. that'd be AWESOME.

"what is THAT? the **** did that COME from?"
"i..... i don't know. just...... just back away now..... slowly........"

Currently running an MXR Envelope Filter and Boss OC-2 from the output of the Korg Pitchblack using the Boss PCS-20A. Seems to work ok. I'll probably get something like a Voodoo Labs Pedal Power 2 to also power my Line 6 G50. Also planning to add the MXR Bass Compressor, and my old chorus and fuzz pedals.

That's the type of setup I am doing. Very small.

We are doing a cover of Starlight by Muse and some other songs that use an overdriven bass sound.

My pedal setup will be (probably):

DOD Milk Box -------- Boss ODB-3 -----MAYBE another OD------Tuner

And that's it. I might end up using a another VT Bass at some point but have no reason to now.

13 bucks.

Buy Boss PCS-20A PARALLEL DC CORD | Guitar & Bass Effects Power Supplies | Musician's Friend

The cables from a 1-Spot or Power-all will not work as power-outs on a Boss tuner.

I thought on this for a while, but didn't really see the advantage. If your Boss adapter will handle the load, you could use the daisy chain off of that, instead of powering the tuner and running the daisy chain from the tuner.

Cool. A TB'er read this and was nice enough to offer up one for a good price.

Well I have a Boss tuner and a single 9v wall plug and just wanted an easy solution.

This should do it.
