Cheap Ring Mod (with sample)

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello everybody,
I don't know if this goes here but it seems like a fit to me. Today I was trying to find some foam to put under the strings, like the BassMute, on my fretless/defretted Ibanez GSR200 to get more of the upright sound. I put some under there and got an alright tone but I decided to move the foam around the body to see if it got any better. When I moved the foam right to the bottom of the neck I got what resembles a sound that I used to get from a ring mod that I'd played through a long time ago. Anyway I thought I'd make a quick (bad) recording of it to show yall what I've found and see if anybody is even interested.
Anyway HERE is the clip, the first part is with the mute then I quickly pulled it out and played the same part again, so you can hear the difference.
Let me know if you have any questions, just wanted to share my new discovery with TB,
Jason

Files are down already. Maxed out at 10 downloads.

The Dan Armstrong Green Ringer & clones can be had fairly cheap, or you could find the schematic and make one yourself. The DOD FX13 Gonkulator can be found on the cheap used. The EHX Frequency Analyzer and XO model thereof can be had for round $130-$150 brand new. The Copilot Android is $130 new. The Catalinbread Heliotrope is ring-mod like, and can be had used for sub-$150 from time to time. There's plenty of ring mods out there for $150 and below.

Sorry about it running out of downloads, I re-uploaded it to Megaupload HERE. Hopefully that doesn't have a limit. Here's a picture of it too:
