Cheap "stunt pedals"

Sign in to disble this ad
At this point I've pretty much gotten settled on the pedals I need for my various usual playing "tones". But buying new pedals is too much fun for me to stop adding to the board!

So what are some cheap (under $50 used) pedals out there that are fun to whip out just to get wild and weird?

I've already got chorus, phaser, & OD for covering the basics and bassballs, synth, and V-wah for some wackiness.

Though you said you've already got a phaser, you might check out the Ibanez PZ-7. You can get them cheap, and I'm finding that you can get some far out sounds from it--well into ring modulator territory.

Yeah, I'm not against duplicating effects if the "stunt pedal" one makes a different sound to serve a different purpose that the one I already have couldn't do...like the PZ-7 would do. Perfect example.

I'd say a cheap digital delay, especially one with modulation.

I vote for an octaver or a delay. Those are actually the only two I use.

+1 on the delay
you could try another chorus like the DOD stereo. you can get really interesting sounds and textures running two in series or parallel with different settings.

I suggest old DOD effects like the meat box or fx13

More filters, and plenty of 'em. Also another +1 for a delay of some sort.

was at gc earlier today and saw the digitech bass synth wah new for 60- which isnt under 50- but it can make some pretty cool sounds and is probably cheap used.

Weren't those Danelectro plastic pedals pretty cool and cheap? Those could be interesting, too.

Yeah, the danos are great - one of the guitarists in my band swears by them, even though he could (and probably should!) nab more upmarket units...

I love the danos. I bought the FAB chorus to test if I would actually use a chorus in my playing...and it turns out I dont use it much but I certainly use it the $15 worth.

So are any of them capable of twisted far-out sounds?
