Checkup on PDDI/RPM users. Are still happy?

Sign in to disble this ad
All,
I've read *everything* I could find on Tech21 sansamp RPMs, PDDIs, BDDIs and RBIs in these forums and elsewhere. I am going to A/B the BDDI and PDDI ASAP. Based on what I've read and the type of sound I'm trying to get (Robbie Shakespear, Boston, John Deacon - meat and potatoes FAT bass that cuts through a mix) the PDDI seems like it would be the one (I believe a mid knob will be very helpful - and yes I know the BDDI can boost mids indirectly but I want more direct control). In the end I will trust my ears when I compare them, but I am one to always listen to people with direct experience. Now that the PDDI has been out for a couple of years (and probably the RPM) I thought I'd check in with its users.

What I'd like to know is for those of you with RPMs and PDDIs are you still happy with them and would you recommend them over the BDDI?

(I am not focusing on rackmount units as I need the pedal, however my understanding is that the RPM and the PDDI are essentially the same with the exception of the additional hookup options. I'm not focusing on the PBDDI because of board space.)

Thanks,
Mozar

In Short: YES

Love it. Made me sell my 2 bass heads and replace them with an RBI and PBDDI.

Great Kit Mate

I'm a bit confused ... do you prefer the RBI and PBDDI over the RPM/PDDI?

My 2 cents:

IMHO BDDI (or PBDDI or RBI) has a better "bass" tone than both PDDI or PSA. Both PDDI and PSA are designed to offer lots of different tones and BDDI actually varies over the same single sound but that single sound is better than and cannot be reproduced by the other two.

I too am a meat and potatoes player and BDDI does that best.

As always, YMMV.

I had the PDDI. It wasn't as useful to me as I thought it was going to be. In the end, I sold it and use onboard preamps, my compressor and other pedals, and my amp to modify my sound. That's enough knobs for me.

I have not tried the RPM or PDDI. But I love the PBDDI and RBI I use and dont often think of needing much more to be honest. Like the other poster mentioned: meat and taters
