Chevelle bass distortion

Can anyone tell me what distortion the bassist might be using on the new chevelle album, I'm really liking his tone...

does it sound like any specific pedal or unit or is it a studio or plugin trick?

Along with a BBE Sonic Stomp. The Sonic Maximizer does wonders for distortion.
