Arrow Chorus Battle: Electro-Harmonix Small Clone Vs Boss CEB-3

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys, Im thinking about getting a chorus single stomp. Should I roll with a Boss CEB-3 Bass Chorus or the Electro-Harmonix Small Clone? How does the EHX pedal handle the low frequencies?

I can get both for the same price. All input is appreciated

Cheers!

Love my CEB-3, which is more commonly available, and will fetch you better resale value, should you decide that a chorus effect is not for you. The CEB-3 is bass-specific, whereas the Small Clone is not, but I have used my CEB-3 on my acoustic-electric guitar to nice effect too.

Sweet as, thanks mate. I have a EHX small stone and the quality is incredible, hence my interest.

Anyone else have input if it looses bass?

Have you looked at the DigiTech Bass Chorus?

No I haven't, the only reason why I'm looking at these is because the price is right.

I tried and liked the Small Clone, a lot of chorus clones are based on it. But be sure it isn't a NanoClone. Those are heralded as noisy and a PITA to power. The Nano can't be daisy chained.

I also have a CEB-3 and am satisfied with it. Around here, the CE-5 gets a lot of love, as do the Analogman chorus.

These are very different sounding choruses. It really depends what you're after. The CEB-3 will give you that cold 80's chorus sound. The Small Clone is more of a watery, warbley, Nirvana-esque chorus. I have owned both and they're both very good, so it really depends on which chorus tone you're after. Also, as was already mentioned, if you go for the Small Clone, make sure its the old sheet metal version, and not the newer nano. The nano clone has some big flaws.

I was suggested CE-5 over the CEB-3 here at TB. Tried out both at a guitar store and got the former. I found the CEB-3 to be too cold/subtle. I haven't tried the small clone but I have heard good things about it (not so for the nano clone, though).

+1 to the above. It's the only chorus pedal I ever had, and does its job well for bass. One thing I want to add is that the Small Clone only has two settings for the depth of the chorus effect, which I found rather restrictive. I ended up using the higher modulation depth most of the time, because the low setting was always too subtle.

i have defaulted to this pedal and just got rid of all my other chorus pedals. they are cheap used and are durable. not as warm as some pedals, but i have enough warmth in my system.

The Small Clone is better by a mile IMO, it's just more real sounding and less digital. Be sure to get the big box version (I think it's purple) and not the NanoClone.

I like the small clone a lot. Sounds great with bass.

I'm going to recommend the Analogman Clone Chorus with the deep switch. Just be sure to power it with 12V DC as it makes it a bit clearer with more headroom.
