Question Chorus Pedal Help

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey everyone. I am looking to buy a chorus pedal. But i dont really have any information. I was looking around in other post but still needed more information. So i was wondering what pedal makes a kind of subtle warm sound for under $100. I was looking at the digitech bass chorus or the boss bass chorus but wasnt sure if they were good for what i wanted. Thanks

I would recomend the Visual Sounds Liquid Chorus or the Boss Chorus (guitar)

I just got the Boss Bass Chorus recently and am very happy with it. Used price is $40-$60

I like the warmth of the Danelectro Cool Cat Chorus (18v version, not sure about the newer 9v) to me it doesn't sound digital like I think the Boss and Digitech's do. I bought mine for under $50 on ebay.

Notable mentions that I'd say are worth a look as well are...
Electro Harmonix Small Clone
Electro Harmonix Electric Mistress (Chorus/Flange)

Sounds fine to me, from my experience and realize this wasn't extensive I didn't notice much or any mid/low loss. The one I messed with was the Stereo Electric Mistress and it has a stereo out as well. It can give a very cool slight shimmer of chorus/flange to full on psychedelic underwater adventure mode.

Out of any of the three I mentioned I'd probably get the Mistress.

If you can find an old Trace Elliot Quad Chorus pedal used...JUMP ON IT.

I have the Digitech Multivoice Bass Chorus, and I totally love it. It really rounds out and warms up the sound. It is much more noticeable on my fretless, but the fretted likes it too. I have mine setup to be fairly subtle. After a while, I forget it is on until I turn it off and my sound goes flat.

I definitely use it more than any other pedal I have.

I tried out a few chorus pedals recently and settled on the boss CEB-3. I like the control that pedal gives you over the lower frequencies.
It is rather noisy, especially if you tend to turn your "level" knobs too high. Otherwise, it does a fine job without getting too muddy.

Picked one up for $50, almost new, on local craigslist.

As much as I rarely use chorus or flange live, I really like my EHX Stereo Electric Mistress.

I really miss my old MXR Stereo Chorus. Big yellow box with an A.C. cord attached, but it was fantastic.

I used to have an 18v Danelectro Cool Cat that I really enjoyed. I didn't lose a lot of low end; it was a great compliment to my sound, but then again, I never used a real "in your face" chorus. Looking for a new one myself.

+1
I forgot about this pedal. I used a FAB chorus for a while too.

id say get the Hardwire CR7 if youre looking for a few different chorus sounds since its got so many modes ranging from subtle to pretty extreme, plus you can get them used on ebay for under $100.

also i just aquired a BBE Mind Bender chorus and im really digging it so far. very transparent, all analog, internal mix trimpot, and a vibrato mode (which is just "eh" IMO altho ive never used any other vibrato so i have nothing to compare it to)
its well worth it for the chorus alone, especially since you can get them used for around $60-75
