chorus pedals..

Sign in to disble this ad
Looking into adding a chorus pedal and possibly adding an overdrive pedal and a wah to my set up, and getting rid of my bass limiter/enhancer and my tech 21 sansamp

Any recommendations? Ill have no use for my previous pedals as im upgrading my rig greatly...im most interested in the chorus for solos..need something transparent and without noise

I love the Neunaber Chroma Chorus....it's a bit different (more modern take) because it has no warbles in it. It rocks. People say the Iron Ether Polytope can do that, too...plus get insane...but I don't have any experience on that.

The Boss CEB-3 is cheap, sounds decent, and pretty versatile. Not a boutique pedal, but the frequency control makes it useful for me. I haven't felt a glaring need to "upgrade" anyway. YMMV.

I really like my EBS wah, chorus, and multidrive. It took me some time to dial in the chorus (I usually prefer phase to chorus), but I really like it now. I'm not sure that I would call any of the EBS stuff colorless, though.

None of these fall into the cheap category, if that matters.

I currently use the Visual Sound H20 chorus/echo and it works really well. The "lush" switch really gives you a deep chorus effect, but I find that in a band setting, that becomes a little muddy.

I have a Pro Tone Nectar Chorus coming fairly quickly, so I'm looking forward to trying that one out.

The Behringer CC300 Chorus/Space-C is a nicely done clone of the classic Boss DC-2 (Dimension C), which itself is a slimed-down Roland Dimension D. Great analog non-warbly stereo atmosphere injector. They go for under $40 on Amazon.
Like the Dimension C there are four settings, so a rather limited amount of versatility. But they are all great. I don't like Chorus much, but there are four chorus settings that are guaranteed to not suck. Thick and warm without warbling things up.

Bit of a left field choice. Let your ears guide you.

I use a Moog ClusterFlux and a Roland Jazz Chorus. Great choruses, but there are problems with both:

The Moog cost more than my bass and amp combined (yes, I bought used, but still...)
The Roland is an amp, and cannot be separated from the chorus effect.

Conclusion: Get the MXR Analog Chorus. Its cost-to-availbility-to-sound ratio is better than any other analog chorus. On the digital side, I would consider either a Boss CEB-3, a Boss CH-1, or a Boss CE-5. Decent pedals, and they have that legendary Boss construction.

IE PolyTope or Neunaber ChromaChorus - both can do a fantastic chorus.

+1 on the analog chorus. Took me a while to find a chorus that worked for me, but this would be it.

and here somes a little left field advice in regards to chorus: DETUNE CHORUS! I use a Boss PS-3 in either mode 4 (single) or mode 8 (dual) voiced chorus from subtle to down right mind-warping! Has a blend (mix) knob if need be.

In regards to wah I love my Dunlop 105Q but it depends if you want more rock vs. funky wah. THIS is def a funky wah (i.e.:RHCP - Coffee Shop) but can be used in rock applications (i.e.: Audioslave-Cochise)

My O/D needs are covered with a T-REX Bass Juice

I'm going to vote for the Neunaber Chroma Chorus. It's a subtle chorus that doesn't impart too much of its own voice on your signal and allows your bass' natural tone to come through while adding some nice sparkle on the top end.

I've had good experiences with the Analogman Chorus and Danelectro Coolcat (18V.)

I just switched yesterday from a Boss CEB-3 to the MXR Analog Chorus. The MXR is so much warmer and 'upfront' than the Boss, I'd describe the Boss as 'cold' and 'dark' by comparison. That said maybe that's the sound you're after in a chorus.

Wow. I like boss, bit they're usually kinda noisy...I think its funny how their pedals as noisy(besides the tuner), but they offer a noise suppressor pedal as well.....conspiracy?

I use an MXR Black Label(same as the analog chorus different box) and a PS-6 in detune mode for chorus. They both sound great. There's a good bass demo of the MXR analog chorus on Youtube.
