chorus vs. flanger for dnb

I don't think this thread has been done. I know about the dubstep wobbbbbbble thread. But I am wondering which would be better for drum & bass... chorus or flanger? Just as a creamy smooth liquidy texture on an already octaved signal.

Thoughts? thx

Chorus. Alot of D&B lines consists of two bass tracks where one is slightly detuned to thicken and spread the sound.

Cool, that's what I was thinking. Any recommendations?

I just want it for smooth texture. Wobble I can get with a tremolo.

Flanger/ Phaser is cool for putting over top of a fuzz/ waveshaper at the end of a phrase. Turn on Phaser, open filter, blow minds with crazy jet fly-by, turn off phaser and go into next phrase.

As was previusly said, chorus is good for fattening up your tone by imitating a detuned sound and can also be used for some shimmery sounds depending on the chorus.

But I think these are best if you already have the standard octave fuzz filter combo going on.

Though obviously others will have a much better idea of this than me, I would agree that chorus is a nice addition to synthy combos. It thickens things up and can add an ominous, atmospheric tone to things which would work well for dnb stuff.

Here's a clip I did adding chorus (and delay) to a synth sound:

And here are the three effects (synth, chorus, delay) played separately:

That said, I know John Davis said once that he used a flanger with extreme settings for approximating Reese bass sounds.

I think if I was doing dnb stuff I would strongly consider something like the Eventide Modfactor or Line 6 M9 to get a full range of modulation with lots of tweakability. And the digital sound (more so on the M9) wouldn't be at all out of place.

Just a thought.

I think chorus is better. It is the catchy to all people in drum and bass.

Yeah. I've been overdosing myself on DnB this week and I hear the chorus all over the place. I now must have one...lol

Tried a Boss CEB-3 today and it was kinda okay... I def. gotta try out some other ones.

Off topic... I also tried a EHX Bass Big Muff today and I really liked it. The price is great too. But I seemed to hear a noticeable dropout/click when I hit the switch! Are they all like that? or is this just a bad one? does it matter? lol

in this thread i posted some clips with a t-rex squeezer bass-chorus. that pedal can sound quite nice with some octave/fuzz for d&b…
