Christmas Shopping--guitar distortion.

As the title implies, I'm in the market for a low/mid-gain guitar distortion pedal, to be used with solid-state amps. The tone goals are in the realm of the late 60's/early 70's dirty sounds (ala Peter Green-era Fleetwood Mac, Cream, the usual suspects.) Digital/Modelling is fine if it'll do the job.


Unfortunately, I'm stuck trying to find a one-pedal to that ubiquitously difficult "classic rock" tone. I know that's tricky, you know that's tricky, but I'm sure that with the collective knowledge here we can at least drum up some suggestions--and, trust me, I'm all ears.

Is this for bass guitar or that other type of guitar?

Guitar, not bass.

It just so happens that I'm not too keen on solid-state amps, so I haven't really got a clue which distortions/od's/fuzzes sound good into them and which don't.

Haven't tried any of them, but it sounds like one of the Tech21 Character series pedals might fit the bill...
