Chronicle's To buy List

Sign in to disble this ad
Alrighty, so here's the scoop. My to buy list will be fulfilled around feburary and i want to make sure it's going to be worth the money.

I want a new flanger so the Maxon/Ibanez FL-9 is on the list. I searched and the maxon/ibanez thread mark has made didn't help that much. So does anyone have any info on the pedals?

I'm definately getting the fulltone bassdrive. It could be my grit pedal if it can outmatch my sansamp for grit(Check http://myspace.com/jovister for some cool sanamps grit ) One question though, would it be possible to have the bassdrive a grit pedal and then hit boost for distortion?

I'm also going to get a Boss DD-6 to replace my DD-3.

For a phaser, i want the subdecay quasar. The subdecay's description sounds like what i want but i can't listen to the soundclips as i'm in class right now

The subdecay noisebox looks interesting, again i'll have to wait until later to check out the soundclips.

So how about some comments on the pedals mentioned?

The Fulltone doesn't get angry enough for me to call it a distortion even with the boost on. But you'll like it.

When I run the Bass Drive at 9 volts on Comp Cut mode, the normal channel is perfect for grit and the boost channel gives me distortion. The first two clips in Fulltone Bass-Drive Mosfet SOUNDCLIPS are the same settings, the second one just has the boost kicked on, so if that will do the trick for you as far as grit and distortion, I'd say you're good to go except there is a volume boost associated with the boost switch only in Comp Cut mode.

The FM and Vintage settings are really geared for more gain than just grit, but it might be possible in those modes if you turn the overdrive knob down and crank the boost.

Hm.. so let's say compare it to a RAT's distortion ala Tool - H. You cannot get distortion like that with the fulltone? If that's true, would it be like the sansamp in terms of grit?

edit:

yeah man, your grit really rocks I gotta listen to the clips again @_@

The fourth clip is the most amount of gain you can get out of the Fulltone. For me, it's plenty, probably as much as I'd get running a Rat. But I don't think it's inherently as mean as the Rat. It will sound mean if you play mean though.

I've owned DD-3's and DD-6's and they're both great. Right now I use a DD-3 for it's simplicity but I have been thinking of switching back to the DD-6 since I heard Bootsy using the reverse delay on the Superbad soundtrack. Got me thinking how some reverse delay would be cool in the band I play in.

The DD-3 is good but i sold mine for the Line 6 echo park. It has all the same basic functions as the DD-3 except it has a 3 way switch for Analog, Digital, or tape delay modes. I love the clarity of the digital mode but also the slight warble delay from the analog and tape. Its also got tap tempo. its a great pedal imo

IMO, the fulldrive is far more of an overdrive than a distortion. From my experience, it has a "rounder" tone versus a "biting, sharp" tone. I have a Bassdrive, but I am GAS ing for a Turbo rat for a dirty channel.

I also have an Echo Park, and I love it as a complex delay pedal. You can get a ton of sounds out of it, but dialing in exact delay times is virtually impossible. The tap tempo does work great for synching with a band though. I have yet to figure out how to set say a 500ms delay time.

I have a MIJ BF-2 for my small board, and after your thoughts on the BF-3, I will probably look for an Electric Mistress for my big pedalboard. The BF-2 isn't very subtle, but it does have a fairly metallic sound to it. Check out Toolbassplayer's videos on youtube for a bit of an example.

Well, is it Fooly or Cooly? I love my DD-6, methinks you'll be happy.

if you're into those weird delays, the DD-6 also has a warp function. which is kickass. but i'm selling mine for a DD-3, even though i play alt rock/metal, the features are a bit out there for me.
